Introduction to Kintsugi with Yoko Ozawa
- Two x 3 hour sessions, $340
- Session 1 of 2: Saturday 12 October 10.00am-1.00pm
- Session 2 of 2: Saturday 30 November 10.00am-1.00pm
Learn how to repair damaged ceramics using the traditional methods and materials of the Japanese art of kintsugi. Repairs are made using urushi, the sap of the lacquer tree, as a glue. Once cured, the repair is finished with a fine layer of gold, silver or brass. The philosophy and practice of kintsugi offer a metaphor for life: embracing imperfection, healing wounds and turning adversity into something beautiful.
The workshop is suited to repair of minor damage to items such as cups, bowls and side plates (ceramic, glass or wood). Bring what you have!
It will run over two Saturday mornings, 7 weeks apart (allowing time for the Urushi to cure), and will include tea and Japanese sweets.
The fee is $340. Materials for small repairs (a chip/crack up to 3cm) are included. Additional fees of $10-$20 may apply for multiple/larger repairs.
